After breakfast, embark on a scenic journey to the banks of the Girithale Reservoir, the starting point of our enriching bicycle tour. On Day 4 of your journey through Sri Lanka, you will explore the majestic Sigiriya Rock Fortress. Also known as the Lion Rock, Sigiriya is a testament to the island's rich history and showcases an exquisite fusion of irrigation techniques, architecture, hydraulic engineering, vibrant frescoes, and ancient urban planning from the 5th century AD. The fortress is famous for its well-preserved wall paintings of graceful ladies, which are considered to be some of the most significant examples of ancient Sri Lankan art.

It sounds like a great plan to spend the afternoon at the hotel and take in the beautiful environment and scenery of the Lion Rock. It's always nice to have some downtime to relax and enjoy the surroundings.

After an early breakfast, we will proceed to Polonnaruwa, the second kingdom established by King Vijayabahu I, who banished invaders in the 10th century AD. At this historical site, you can witness many ancient monuments and remains of architectural marvels. Additionally, you will see the gigantic man-made tank called "Parackrama Samudra," which was constructed in the 12th century AD and still irrigates more than 72 square kilometers of rice fields.

Moving from the dry to the wet zone, we will head towards Kandy. En route, we will visit a Spice Garden in Mathale, where a botanist will spice up your knowledge about herbs. You will also get a free head and shoulder massage with herbal oil.

To many Sri Lankans and visitors alike, Kandy is the sweetest city on the island. The area surrounding the last kingdom offers a mix of historical and natural attractions. The Temple of the Tooth, which enshrines the sacred tooth of the Buddha, symbolic of sovereignty over the island, is located here.

Explore the heart of Sri Lankan Buddhism by visiting the Temple of the Tooth Relic in Kandy. This is a highly significant religious site that holds the sacred tooth relic of Lord Buddha. The journey continues with a technical visit to a gem museum, showcasing Sri Lanka's rich variety of gemstones, including sapphires, zircons, garnets, rubies, and cat's eyes. Horton Plains is a must-visit destination for nature enthusiasts, offering the chance to spot the elusive “Ceylon Whistling Thrush,” the elegant Ceylon Wood Pigeon, the vibrant Yellow-eared Bulbul, the endemic Ceylon White-eye, and the striking Dusky Blue Flycatcher among its avian inhabitants.
